January 2021 Prayer Update

Our January 16, 2021 outreach had 12 volunteers split into two teams. We were able to share with over 20 homeless folks and distribute 75 sandwiches, as well as hot coffee, warm clothes and bibles. Our Martinez team provided haircuts! Please see photos and prayer pointers below! Thank you for partnering with us in the gospel!

Martinez Team

Our Martinez team (pictured above) began in the vacant lot near Safeway on Willow Pass in Concord, where we met 4 homeless folks. We were able to pray and share bibles and hot coffee and food with those we met, as well as provide some jackets, and discuss our hope in Jesus.

From there we headed to the Martinez Marina, where we were ‘officially’ registered to serve in the large organized encampment there. This month we tried something new - providing free haircuts, in addition to our regular items. This was a wonderful opportunity to fellowship over a longer period both during the haircuts, and with those waiting in line, as well as elsewhere in the amazing encampment. Some of these friends had not had a hair cut for many months and were SO excited and thankful for this service to them. Please find some photos of this special time below.

With this our third time at this encampment, we are starting to make friends with some folks. It’s encouraging that so many are happy to receive bibles and prayer. We’ll certainly offer haircuts again, it was such a blessing to them! We were also able to explore downtown Martinez, and provide clothing to several additional people, including a woman who had almost nothing but a shirt, due to drug related issues.

Please pray:

  • For those we gave bibles to, to read them and be open to discuss with us

  • For Frank and Judy (pictured having haircuts above) to come to saving faith in Jesus

  • For wisdom for our continued ministry at this Martinez encampment and partnership with the lady who manages it

  • For wisdom to know how to help those who are hurting the most through the consequences of sin.

Concord Team

Our first stop was Baldwin Park in Concord. There we met Mary and Eddie. That encounter proved to be very fruitful. We had meaningful conversations about Jesus with both of them. Mary asked where in the Bible she could go when she felt sad and lonely. We were able to show her a few places to read in the Bible that we gave her.

From the park, we stopped at the Concord Civic Center. We had an opportunity to talk with three men who we had also met last month: Milo, Chris and Nacho. Nacho spoke Spanish, but his English was very limited. We were able to delve deeper into discussions about the Lord with Chris and Milo.

We traveled to north Concord to a location that we were familiar with but that has been vacant for almost a year. We met Scotty, Stephen and Paul. Their openness was limited but since they appreciated the food and blessing bags, we were able to talk for a while. We would hope to have future opportunities with these same men to get deeper.

Under another bridge we found a small group. We were able to share the remaining lunches, and have some conversation with a woman called Jean.

Please pray:

  • For each of these people above to come to true saving faith in Jesus

  • For addictions to be overcome by transformation in the gospel

  • Also pray that we will continue to be blessed with people who provide who support this ministry both in prayer and financially through regular monthly gifts.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement! May God be glorified through all we do!
